The Minnesota Vikings have one of the league’s best running backs in Dalvin Cook, who will be counted on heavily by the new coaching staff in 2022. However the former Florida State standout does tend to miss a few games here and there, so Alexander Mattison is another that should feature heavily next season.

Mattison has proven capable of shouldering the load when the opportunity arises. His production is lower than Cook’s, obviously, but there are few players at the position that can change a game like Minnesota’s No. 1 option.

With a new head coach and general manager in place, players like Mattison are fighting all over again for a role. The only difference this time around is that he already has a consistent level of performance to be judged on rather than just upside.

If Mattison continues to develop and makes the most of his carries, then there might be an opportunity for the Boise State product to become a feature back somewhere else in 2023 free agency.
