Former Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman recently revealed that he believes Malik Willis is the most intriguing 2022 quarterback prospect.
For the first time in a long time, former Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman gets to enjoy the NFL Draft this year like the rest of his former team’s fan base. He’ll actually be able to watch everything without having to worry about how he’s going to acquire 13 more seventh-round picks before the draft comes to a conclusion.
Recently, Spielman revealed some interesting pieces of info in a discussion with Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.
In this discussion, the former Vikings general manager shared which quarterback from this year’s draft class he believes is the most “intriguing” of the group.
Malik Willis has a fan in former Minnesota Vikings GM Rick Spielman
Spielman is someone who is very familiar with this year’s quarterback prospects since he was evaluating the group last fall while he was still employed by Minnesota.
Of the signal-callers that are expected to be selected in the 2022 NFL Draft later this month, former Liberty quarterback Malik Willis is the one who seems to stick out the most to the former Vikings general manager.
Here’s what Spielman had to say about Willis in his discussion with Breer.
"“I had an opportunity to see him play live at Syracuse this fall. He did not have a lot of help around him. But even if you looked at the previous year, when they played NC State, they played a lot of big schools the previous year, off his junior tape, he gave them an opportunity to win games with not as much talent as some of these quarterbacks have around them.So I always thought he was the most intriguing, because of his athletic skill set, [and] because of his arm strength.”"
In addition to his comments about Willis, the former Minnesota general manager told Breer he thinks former Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett is the “most ready” of the passing prospects available in this year’s NFL Draft.
Unfortunately for Spielman, he won’t get to be the one to give Willis or Pickett their first opportunity to play in the NFL later this month.
