In a recent press conference, quarterback Kirk Cousins said he wants to stay with the Minnesota Vikings for the rest of his NFL career.

There has been been a massive debate about the future of the quarterback position of the Minnesota Vikings. Some are hoping for a young face to lead the way into the next generation of the franchise. Others want a more established player like Kirk Cousins at the helm.

Debating how Minnesota should handle the quarterback position isn’t likely to end soon. There are fans who love Kirk Cousins and want him to stay with the Vikings while others don’t see him as being a guy who can take the team to the Super Bowl.

If it was up to Kirk Cousins, we now know that he would love to stay with Minnesota and retire with the purple and gold. He said as much during a press conference recently streamed to the team’s official Twitter account.

What can be taken from Kirk Cousins’ words about the Minnesota Vikings?

This was an interesting conference from Kirk Cousins because words can be interpreted in many ways. The Vikings have made heavy financial investments in him over the past few years and are tied to the passer for a few more years thanks to a recent extension that lowered his 2022 cap number

Cousins has to be happy with his financial situation in Minnesota, but he also has a coaching staff and front office that believe in him and excellent talent around him in the form of Dalvin Cook. Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen, and others.

What he didn’t have to say is that he wants to wear purple and gold for the rest of his NFL career. At age 33, he could still be in the league for quite a few years and possibly into his 40s if he can keep healthy like Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, or other older passers in the league.

"“My mindset was really to be a Viking. I would like to retire as a Viking, and so I would like to play my way into that if you will. I know I’ve got to earn the right to do that,” Cousins said."
