Tommy Kramer

  • Draft Year: 1977
  • Draft Round: 1st
  • Draft Pick: No. 27

In 1977, Tommy Kramer became the first quarterback to ever be selected by the Vikings in the first round of the NFL Draft.

Of the four signal-callers Minnesota has used a first-round draft pick on, some would argue that Kramer was the best of the group. But that’s not the case on this list.

Kramer became the full-time starting quarterback for the Vikings in his third season with the team in 1979. From 1979 to 1989, he wound up starting a total of 114 games for Minnesota (110 regular-season matchups and four playoff games).

Kramer’s best year with the Vikings came during the 1986 campaign when he earned a trip to the Pro Bowl after throwing for 3,000 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.

In Minnesota’s record book, Kramer still ranks second in career passing yards and career passing touchdowns. Unfortunately, he also ranks second all-time in Vikings history in career interceptions.
