Vikings acquire Travis Kelce from the Chiefs

  • Trade:
    • Vikings Get:
      • Travis Kelce – TE
      • 2022 fourth-round pick (No. 135)
      • 2022 seventh-round pick (No. 234)
    • Chiefs Get:
      • 2022 first-round pick (No. 12)
      • 2023 second-round pick
      • 2023 third-round pick

When they traded star wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins earlier this year, the Kansas City Chiefs made it clear that they are willing to part with top players if helps them build the future of their roster.

Very few people thought the Chiefs would ever part with someone like Hill and many likely have similar feelings about current Kansas City All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce.

However, Kelce will be turning 33 in October, and the Chiefs probably don’t have much time left to get a big return in a trade that would involve the veteran tight end.

For the Vikings, making a deal for someone like Kelce would signify that they are truly serious about contending in the NFC next season. His production dipped a tiny bit in 2021, however, he still hauled in an impressive 92 catches for 1,125 yards and nine touchdowns in addition to being graded as the fourth-best tight end in the NFL by PFF.

Trading for a tight end might not make sense for a Minnesota team that will now be running an offense that utilizes more three-receiver sets. But Kelce lined up in the slot or out wide on 61 percent of his offensive snaps last season, so the Vikings can still run the offense they want if they acquire the veteran tight end.
