Charlie Kolar has been floating around the NFL Draft conversation for two years now after breaking out at Iowa State. Following his sophomore season, there was a lot of buzz around the giant tight end with strong hands, but he stuck around for four seasons and now enters the NFL Draft in 2022.
Kolar hauled in 20 touchdowns over his final three seasons with the Cyclones and often used his large frame to push the passing game down the middle of the field. His connection with Brock Purdy was a thing of beauty when Iowa State was clicking over the past few years.
As a big target, Kolar is going to have a home in offenses that maximize two tight ends and can split outside to give another weapon on the perimeter from time to time. He is also going to be a red-zone nightmare with that blend of size, athleticism, and ball skills.
Although he is not quite the level of blocker, Charlie Kolar impacts the passing game like a young Kyle Rudolph when he first arrived in Minnesota. As a late-round selection, he will be worth the investment in the right system.
It is always worth betting on an athletic tight end with strong hands. As long as the blocking can be cleaned up a bit to keep him from being a complete liability, there is a home for Kolar in the NFL.
