7 absolute best draft options at pick No. 12 for the Vikings in 2022
By Dean Jones
George Karlaftis – DE (Purdue)
The Minnesota Vikings are shifting to a 3-4 defensive front under Ed Donatell in 2022. This should give them a prolific outside linebacker tandem in Danielle Hunter and Za’Darius Smith, but they do look a little light on the defensive end front if the coaching staff decides to use their two best pass-rushers in this area.
Adding to their options early in the draft would be wise. The Vikings might even consider this in the first round if the right prospect becomes available.
Someone like George Karlaftis certainly looks the part and has the production to match. The prospect was a dominant figure throughout his time at Purdue and has all the physicality needed to become a real force at the next level.
Karlaftis is a stout presence against the run that sets the edge well. He thrives rushing the passer, using surprising explosiveness and an endless motor to get to the spot consistently.
Adding Karlaftis to a front seven that also consists of Smith, Hunter, and Dalvin Tomlinson would make Minnesota a formidable adversary to overcome. It would also give the player plenty of experience to learn from during his transition.
