6 bold predictions for the Vikings in the 2022 NFL Draft
By Chris Schad
McDuffie will be Minnesota’s first-round pick
We’ve mentioned two possible targets for the Vikings in the first round of the draft. With the information that we’ve been given, it’s unlikely that those players will be available at No. 12 or that the Vikings will move up to get those players (even if we hear rumors that they tried after the draft).
That makes Trent McDuffie the logical choice.
McDuffie was one of the top cornerbacks in college football last season. Pro Football Focus graded him 10th in overall grade (86.8) and sixth in coverage grade (89.3) while leading the Washington defense. While he played more zone coverage than most corners in this draft, he fits the profile of what the Vikings are looking for.
McDuffie’s 9.49 RAS is something that should entice the Vikings. At 21-years-old (and 22 come Week 1), McDuffie checks off both boxes and could come at a later point of the draft.
If a team goes crazy trying to get a quarterback, the Vikings could cash in and get the trade capital they desire. It’s not going to be a sexy pick, but if the Vikings can acquire an additional first, it might be worth the groans from the draft party at U.S. Bank Stadium.
