Travon Walker – EDGE (Georgia)

Travon Walker is another player expected to go very high in the draft but despite holding the 12th overall pick, the Vikings had him in for a visit. Walker is an interesting prospect because he has all the intangibles that make coaches and scouts drool.

He’s got great size, great speed, and he is strong as hell. He blew up this year’s NFL Scouting Combine with his workout and there is buzz he could actually be the first player selected this Thursday.

While Walker’s physical attributes and athletic ability are truly impressive, he is a bit polarizing because his stats don’t match those traits.

His best season at Georgia was last year when he had  33 total tackles, seven and a half tackles for a loss, and six sacks. If we compare that to Hutchinson, it looks very paltry to his 14 sacks.

What makes it more concerning is that Walker played on a loaded Georgia defense that had players like Jordan Davis, Nakobe Dean, Devonte Wyatt, and Lewis Cine playing on it. One would think that athletic ability paired with the talent around him, would produce better numbers.

So it is possible that Walker takes an unexpected draft day tumble and the Vikings are doing their due diligence so they can make an informed decision if he’s on the board at pick No. 12. With Walker, a team is projecting what he can be based on his physical tools, but he’ll need some coaching up and a defined position and role if that is going to happen.
