Vikings Draft 2022: Realistic five-round mock draft 2.0
By Adam Patrick
Third Round (Pick No. 77)
Marcus Jones – CB/PR (Houston)
Measurements:
- 5-foot-8
- 174 pounds
2021 Stats (in 13 games):
- 47 tackles (1 for a loss), 1 forced fumble
- 13 pass breakups, 5 interceptions
- 48 percent completion rate allowed
- 14.4 yards per punt return, 2 touchdowns
- 34 yards per kick return, 2 touchdowns
Some might be worried that the Vikings aren’t selecting a cornerback until the third round in this mock, but landing someone like Marcus Jones in round three is certainly something that should help people breathe a little easier.
If Jones was four inches taller and 20 pounds heavier, he would probably end up getting drafted in the first round this year. But he’s not and it will end up working out for Minnesota.
What Jones doesn’t have in size, he makes up for with his ability to stick to an opposing receiver like glue and with his tremendous tackling abilities. His five interceptions last season are also a clear indication that he’s a corner that is going to make opposing quarterbacks pay for thinking they can pick on him.
In addition to his coverage and tackling skills, Jones is an elite returner. The Vikings are already set with Kene Nwangwu as their kick returner, but Jones could easily step in and make Minnesota a lethal team on punt returns as well.
