Vikings 2023 Draft: Way-too-early 2023 mock draft
By Luke Parrish
Round 7
Jayden Reed – WR (Michigan State)
The end of the draft is the time to add pass catchers and hope that one of them can make a little bit of noise in rookie camp. Minnesota took another Michigan State wide receiver in the seventh round this year so jumping into that well is not something that would be a surprise.
Jayden Reed is a touchdown and big-play machine for the Spartans. In three seasons spread across Michigan State and Western Michigan, Reed has scored 21 touchdowns with 2,230 receiving yards.
The preseason is where players taken this late will shine. Trying to project a player a year away that will go in the seventh round AND assuming that player will be an NFL player for the long haul is unrealistic. That is why Reed fits in here as a camp hopeful at a position of relevance for a team that has to consider getting younger and cheaper at wide receiver.
His production speaks for itself and he has the size to stick around if he gets a chance. He may not ever be a superstar but that is okay. The Vikings need players that will challenge and push K.J. Osborn and Ihmir Smith-Marsette.
2023 should be a much better draft for the Minnesota Vikings, especially if they hang on to their picks and get value where it lies. With several positions of need, they can turn around the roster a bit by hitting on their early picks once again.
