Seventh-round draft picks typically don’t last very long on NFL rosters, but Kris Boyd has managed to remain with the Vikings since they selected him in the final round of the 2019 draft.

During the last three seasons with Minnesota, he’s found a way to appear in a total of 41 games. However, most of his snaps in his Vikings career have come on special teams.

This past weekend, Minnesota added a pair of defenders that could take Boyd’s job in former Clemson cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. and former Missouri corner Akayleb Evans. And let’s not forget, the Vikings also signed free-agent cornerbacks Chandon Sullivan and Nate Hairston earlier this year.

Yes, Minnesota did need to add more corner depth this offseason. However, they probably wouldn’t have added four new faces to the position group if they were interested in keeping Boyd on the roster.

Boyd has his work cut out for him this summer. He will need to have a very impressive training camp and preseason if he wants to remain with the Vikings during the 2022 regular season.
