Tight ends (3)

  • Irv Smith Jr, Johnny Mundt, Ben Ellefson

Of all the positions on the roster for the Minnesota Vikings this season, none might be as questionable as the tight ends. Although there are some talented players on the list, each one comes with a question mark.

Irv Smith Jr. has yet to prove he can be healthy enough to be relied on. He missed all of last year and has only played in 14 games over his three seasons with the purple and gold. When on the field, he is a dynamic pass catcher and willing blocker, but he has to be able to play.

A new addition to the roster, Johnny Mundt came over from the Rams to take some of the ease off losing Tyler Conklin his offseason. It still isn’t known if he can step in and play that role as efficiently as Conklin did, but there is always hope.

Finally, blocking specialist Ben Ellefson was having a very good season before he was lost to an injury last season. He should be able to step back in and be the blocker the team needs in obvious run situations.
