He Has “His” Guys

This is the one trait Kwesi Adofo-Mensah showed in the 2022 NFL Draft that could get him in trouble in the future. While every general manager has “his” guys, it was pretty apparent in two instances that Kweski had his mind made up of who he was taking regardless of how the draft shook out in front of him.

The first example of this was with the Lewis Cine pick. There were some blue-chip players still on the board who were universally higher-rated like Kyle Hamilton, Jameson Williams, and Jordan Davis. Kwesi was clearly in love with Cine and was set on taking him before the draft started, and took less than market value to move down to get him.

In Round 4 he did a similar move, trading a future fourth-round choice to jump up a few spots to get cornerback Akayleb Evans. Evans was pretty much seen as a sixth-round type of prospect but Kwesi said he saw something in this kid when he was sitting in a dark room watching film and just had to have him.

Maybe he’s right on both of these guys, and for the Vikings’ sake let’s hope he is. That being said, it is a predetermining who you are going to take instead of letting the draft fall to you is a dangerous tactic to continue to employ, and one that can lead to more busts than steals.
