15 greatest Minnesota Vikings draft picks of all-time
By Adam Patrick
Randy Moss – WR
Draft Year: 1998
Draft Selection: Pick No. 21 (First Round)
Looking back, Randy Moss should have never been still available when it came time for the Vikings to make their first selection in the 1998 NFL Draft at pick No. 21.
But other teams viewed Moss as a controversial prospect and Minnesota wasn’t afraid to take a chance on the dynamic wide receiver. It didn’t take very long for the Vikings to realize that they had made the right decision.
Moss went on to have an amazing rookie campaign during Minnesota’s magical 1998 season and that was just the beginning. During each of his first six years with the Vikings, he finished with at least 65 catches, 1,230 receiving yards, and seven touchdowns.
Moss’ time with Minnesota didn’t have a happy ending, but his impact on the franchise is something that is still felt to this day. He made even the casual football fans tune into Vikings games just to see what sort of mind-blowing plays he might end up making.
In eight years with Minnesota, Moss was voted to the Pro Bowl five times, and he was selected as a First-Team All-Pro three times. He still holds the Vikings all-time records for receiving yards and receiving touchdowns in a single season, and he ranks second in franchise history in career catches, career receiving yards, and career receiving touchdowns.
