15 greatest Minnesota Vikings draft picks of all-time
By Adam Patrick
Bobby Bell – LB
Draft Year: 1963
Draft Selection: Pick No. 16 (Second Round)
Yes, this is a list of the greatest players to ever be drafted by the Vikings, and Bobby Bell was selected by the purple and gold in the 1963 NFL Draft. However, Bell never played a snap in the pros for Minnesota.
In addition to the Vikings drafting Bell, he was also picked in the seventh round of the 1963 AFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite the talented defender spending his college career in the Twin Cities at the University of Minnesota, he chose to play for the Chiefs because they were willing to give him a guaranteed contract, and the Vikings were not.
That would turn out to be a bad decision by Minnesota as Bell went on to have a Hall of Fame career in Kansas City.
In 12 seasons with the Chiefs, he was a six-time First-Team All-Pro, a nine-time Pro Bowler, and he became a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1983. Unfortunately, he was also part of the Kansas City team that defeated the Vikings in Super Bowl IV.
