Kellen Mond – QB

When the quarterbacks started sliding late into Day 2 of the 2022 NFL Draft, there was probably a discussion within the Minnesota Vikings war room about whether or not a signal-caller was worth the risk. In the end, it was a temptation they avoided in pursuit of strengthening other areas.

This was music to the ears of Kellen Mond, who endured an anonymous rookie campaign that drew some criticism from head coach Mike Zimmer regarding his development.

Mond’s status was also up in the air thanks to a brand new set of eyes coming in and judging the signal-caller. So this could end up being a vote of confidence in the Texas A&M product that he has to make the most out of.

It would be a major disappointment if Mond didn’t show enough to become the primary backup to Kirk Cousins next season. If he fails to meet objectives, then the Vikings will not hesitate to draft another quarterback from what appears to be an exceptional class entering the league in 2023.

One could argue that this stroke of good fortune should boost Mond’s confidence. Last season was a rude awakening for the player in terms of finding out what it takes in the NFL, but it’s vital he starts making the necessary strides sooner rather than later.
