Life after Kirk Cousins (or even with him)

The Vikings didn’t draft a quarterback this year. That’s understandable because the front office believes they can win with him, but they’ve also left the door cracked open just enough in case another option comes along. Is anyone interested in Lamar Jackson if that situation crumbles?

Kirk Cousins recently signed an extension with the team that allowed the team to create cap space for the new additions, but the deal only added another year to his expected time with the team. That isn’t a commitment to him as the quarterback of the future, and it keeps the burning question aflame… when will the team move on?

At the same time, this brings questions to Kellen Mond’s development. Is he improving at a sufficient enough rate? Can he be trusted when things go sideways? We have no idea, but we’d certainly love to know sooner than later.

In his very limited time on the field, Mond showed little to sway his doubters. Last season, he wasn’t even considered capable enough to take the helm if Cousins missed time. That was a job reserved for Sean Mannion who is still on the roster.

Now that no changes have been made to the quarterback room, it appears as if the new regime is kicking the can down the road just like the previous leadership did.
