Which Minnesota Vikings rookies could surprise with a smooth transition during the 2022 season?

It was a busy draft process for the Minnesota Vikings as general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah looked to stamp his mark on the organization after replacing Rick Spielman earlier this offseason. The respected front office figure was active in the trade market and managed to scoop up 10 selections to further boost a roster that appears primed for a return to postseason football in 2022.

This was bolstered even more by a number of college recruits coming on board in undrafted free agency. Something that brings an added dimension to the preparation period and additional competition for roster places.

The Vikings look pretty deep with very few holes. But much will depend on how quickly a brand new coaching staff led by Kevin O’Connell can implement their ethos in pursuit of progression.

The 2022 class could have a big part to play in this. Here are five Minnesota Vikings rookies that could surprise next season if everything goes well during their transition.

Nick Muse – TE

The Minnesota Vikings remain confident that Irv Smith Jr. can put his recent injury problems behind him and become a borderline elite tight end in 2022. His talent is undeniable, but adding another development project to the ranks was something Minnesota managed to accomplish late in the draft by taking Nick Muse in the seventh round.

Muse is a big body that can block effectively. He has also shown a willingness to contribute in the passing game and possesses some useful traits for the coaching staff to build on.

Expecting Muse to come in and fill starting duties right away would be pushing it. But there’s nothing to suggest a prominent depth chart role behind Smith is not within his capabilities.
