After winning the Super Bowl with the Los Angles Rams last season, Odell Beckham Jr. is someone the Minnesota Vikings should consider signing.
As they warmed up for a matchup against the Baltimore Ravens last season, a number of Minnesota Vikings players wore shirts that read “Free Odell” on the front in reference to Odell Beckham Jr. wanting the Cleveland Browns to trade or release him.
Beckham, of course, was eventually let go by the Browns, and he ended up landing with the Los Angeles Rams. He was only with the Rams for a short period of time, but the veteran wide receiver made a significant impact with his new team, and he played a big role in Los Angeles ending the 2021 season with a Super Bowl win.
Currently, Beckham is a free agent and he’s still in need of a team to play for during the 2022 campaign. With former Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell now their head coach, should the Vikings consider adding Beckham to their roster this year?
Injury concerns could prevent Odell Beckham Jr. from landing with the Minnesota Vikings
The possibility of having Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen, and Beckham at the top of a wide receiver depth chart is something that would make any team begin to salivate.
But those would be the feelings if we were talking about a healthy Beckham. He would probably already have a new contract for the 2022 season if he didn’t tear his ACL this past February in Super Bowl LVI.
Instead, Beckham is busy rehabbing a torn ACL in his knee for the second time in three years. It’s completely understandable why no team has signed him this offseason.
When it comes to Minnesota, however, they feel like a perfect team to sign Beckham this year. With K.J. Osborn already being a solid No. 3 receiver, Beckham would be able to focus on his ACL recovery without feeling the pressure to return too soon. Plus, he should be familiar with the offensive scheme that O’Connell wants to run.
Even with the hirings of a new head coach and general manager this year, the Vikings have continuously expressed their desire to contend in the NFC next season. If they sign Beckham and he’s able to return for the last quarter of the regular season, he could provide a huge boost to the offense that propels Minnesota into the playoffs.
If the Vikings want people to believe they are truly serious about competing for a championship in 2022, adding a playmaker like Beckham to their roster this year would certainly help in proving that.
