Kyle Rudolph, tight end

Minnesota did a nice job addressing a lot of their depth issues in free agency and the draft, but they still are extremely questionable when it comes to tight ends. Irv Smith Jr. brings health concerns while Johnny Mundt is a wild card and Ben Ellefson blocks. Past that, there are some players with potential who need time to get ready for the NFL.

The Vikings aren’t likely to open their wallets wide enough to draw Jimmy Graham, Rob Gronkowski, or Eric Ebron to the land of 10,000 lakes, but they might be able to convince Kyle Rudolph to return.

Rudolph has been sitting in free agency for a while now and has a nice connection with Kirk Cousins and other players on offense. His price is likely the lowest it has ever been and would be worth at least an inquiry considering the team’s lack of confidence in the position.

Picking up a cheap 6’6 target with a big wingspan for the new Vikings offense would be smart, even if his role would be as a backup. For around $2 million per year, it would be worth reuniting and bringing Rudolph in for his 11th season in purple and gold.
