4 players who may not fit with the Vikings new offense or defense
By Nik Edlund
Garrett Bradbury – C
This is a situation where the player isn’t a good fit for the scheme, but the coaching staff seems hell-bent on making it work anyway.
Garrett Bradbury was seen as a great fit in a zone-blocking scheme and a guy who can get to the second level, making key blocks down the field. Bradbury did this at times, but he struggled horribly against the bull rush, and his inability to anchor will be what will seal his fate in the league.
The Vikings apparently are looking to get bigger and more physical on the offensive line. They went out and signed a couple of big, beefy guards in Jesse Davis and Chris Reed. Those players are very physical at the point of attack and have shown the ability to hold their ground when ginormous men come crashing down on them.
Minnesota also went out and drafted Ed Ingram in the second round, who is another stoutly build interior blocker who had a very high pass-blocking grade during his tenure at LSU.
Bradbury just feels like the leftover piece that was kind of forgotten about when it came to upgrades. Kevin O’Connell has heaped praise on him in press conferences, but the coming months will show their true intentions with Bradbury.
We may see players like Ingram and Wyatt Davis getting reps at center, completing the conversion from an athletic line to a more physically imposing one. If that happens, Bradbury will likely spend his final year with the Vikings as a backup.
