Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Bisi Johnson recently talked about the team’s new offensive scheme and what it might look like during the 2022 season.

For more than a decade, the offensive scheme of the Minnesota Vikings has been pretty much built around the team’s rushing attack. During the 2022 season, however, the Vikings could end up relying on their passing game more than they have in a very long time.

New Minnesota head coach Kevin O’Connell spent the last two years as the offensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Rams. During that two-season span, the Rams attempted the ninth-most passes in the entire NFL, while the Vikings accumulated the 18th-most pass attempts since 2020.

Minnesota wide receiver Bisi Johnson was asked on Tuesday about the team’s new offense and he sounds very excited about the new scheme.

"“I think the new [offensive] scheme is great. I mean we’re going to throw the ball quite a bit, so that’s exciting for me.”"

Will passing the ball more produce success for the Minnesota Vikings in 2022?

Passing the ball more might seem like a good strategy for the Vikings next season, given all of the receiving weapons they have on their offense. But Minnesota has to make sure they’re efficient with their passing plays.

The Vikings ranked sixth in pass attempts back in 2018, but they only ranked 19th in the NFL in points per game. If Minnesota is going to pass more next season, it has to be because it’s the best strategy to get points on the board.

What Johnson said on Tuesday is exciting though. Vikings fans have become so accustomed to seeing their team’s offense be built around running backs like Adrian Peterson and Dalvin Cook during the last decade.

It’s going to be refreshing to see Minnesota let guys like Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen, and Irv Smith Jr. get more opportunities to lead the offense next season. Hopefully, this new offensive approach results in the Vikings experiencing some success in 2022.
