6 most exciting Vikings moves of the 2022 offseason
By Adam Carlson
1. Hiring Kevin O’Connell to replace Mike Zimmer as head coach
It’s been 12 years since the Minnesota Vikings had an offensive-minded head coach. Making it through the Mike Zimmer and Leslie Frazier eras was tough at times but now Kevin O’Connell is here to take the team to the next level.
O’Connell brings a fresh approach to the offense from the Rams along with a new defensive scheme that should change the entire direction of the franchise. The old-school philosophy of winning a low-scoring game by controlling the clock on offense and playing safe tackling defense could be left by the wayside.
Changing the culture in Minnesota is huge. O’Connell and Adofo-Mensah appear to be more player-friendly than previous regimes while still having high expectations for players and the new coaching staff.
It’s an exciting time to be a fan of the Minnesota Vikings and much of that is because Kevin O’Connell is the team’s new head coach. What he can bring to the purple and gold will be fun and interesting to see this season…and hopefully, it will also bring success and a playoff berth.
