Sheldon Richardson, Defensive line

It would have made a lot of sense for the Minnesota Vikings to bring Sheldon Richardson back for the 2022 season. His ability to play just about any spot on the defensive line would make him valuable as the purple and gold transition to a 3-4 front.

Playing in all 17 games for the Vikings last season, the 31-year-old’s stats weren’t much to be impressed with. He tied his career-high with pass defenses, but only had 39 combined tackles, and 2.5 sacks despite having 13 quarterback pressures,

He could still reunite with Minnesota. Having him available to be a defensive end in a 3-4 set and be a plug-in when needed would be a huge asset for depth on the line. But the Vikings are likely looking to save money at this point and have already spent in free agency to boost their trenches.

Richardson will find a team this season. There is too much he can do for a team that he won’t be a free agent for much longer. He could start on several teams if needed, but as the 2022 season approaches, odds are that he may have to accept a decreased role.
