Alexander Mattison – RB

Kevin O’Connell is the new head coach of the Vikings, and since he’s spent his coaching career on the offensive side of the ball, he’s brought a new offense to his new home.

Minnesota’s previous regime prioritized running the ball, so the guys who made up their offensive backfield had significantly important roles.

When it comes to the Vikings’ new offense, the team’s rushing attack is unlikely to remain the top priority in each game. Instead, Minnesota is expected to place a heavier emphasis on getting the ball in the hands of their wide receivers and other pass-catchers.

Given his high level of talent, most are expecting Dalvin Cook to still have a vital role in the Vikings’ offensive plans for next season. But as far as the guys that are below Cook on the running back depth chart, Minnesota making sure they have strong backups in this position group likely isn’t going to be as big of a priority anymore.

With this being the case, someone like Alexander Mattison might be a guy who the Vikings’ new front office could place on the trade block.

Running backs are always getting injured in the NFL and Mattison could be of interest to a team that ends up needing additional help in their offensive backfield this year. His contract expires after the upcoming season, so Minnesota might as well see if they can get anything intriguing in return for the 23-year-old running back during the next few weeks.
