Mond is getting a fair shot

Earlier this year during the 2022 NFL Draft, some wondered if the Vikings were going to take a chance on one of the young quarterback prospects that were available.

But Minnesota opted to not select a quarterback with any of their 2022 draft picks and it seems like Kellen Mond already being on the roster is the reason why.

Despite only being on the field for a grand total of three offensive snaps in 2021, it’s safe to say that Mond had a rookie year to forget with the Vikings. The kid was never really given a fair chance to do much of anything and Mike Zimmer made it pretty clear at the end of the 2021 season that he wanted nothing to do with helping the young signal-caller’s development.

Enter new Minnesota head coach Kevin O’Connell. A former NFL quarterback who understands how much a coaching staff can impact a young signal-caller like Mond.

So far, O’Connell and Vikings offensive coordinator Wes Phillips have both complemented Mond on his progress this spring. He still has plenty of steps to take in his development, but at least, this time, he has a coaching staff that is actually interested in helping him develop.
