5 new Vikings who could be cut before the 2022 season
By Nik Edlund
Albert Wilson – WR
Albert Wilson is one of the more recent additions to the Vikings and could end up being one that we forget was ever with the team. Wilson was added as a veteran presence to help offset the inexperience that dominates the depth of Minnesota’s receiving corps.
Wilson isn’t a big guy, but he is plenty quick with some pretty reliable mitts. He has made a solid living as a team’s third or fourth option in the passing game, posting 218 receptions and 2,499 receiving yards in his career.
While that experience will be a huge boost to the Vikings’ receiving depth chart, Wilson could also get outplayed by some of the talented young pass-catchers the team has accumulated the last couple of seasons.
Ihmir Smith-Marsette, Blake Proehl, Jalen Nailor, and Thomas Hennigan are all young players with plenty to prove. Smith-Marsette flashed with very limited opportunities last year and Proehl was having a great summer before getting injured. These two could be the two biggest obstacles for Wilson to overcome.
Minnesota brought Wilson in for a reason. They will be throwing the ball a ton this season and will want a guy who has done it before, understands the intricacies of an NFL offense, and knows how to attack a defense.
That being said, if he is getting outplayed by some young and unproven players, the Vikings may opt to keep the best six or seven receivers, and Wilson could be the odd man out in that case.
