Running backs (5)

  • Ty Chandler, Dalvin Cook, C.J. Ham, Alexander Mattison, Kene Nwangwu

There could be a surprise cut among the Minnesota Vikings running backs before the season kicks off, but there is too much talent in this group to cut any of them and the team seems to have a plan for a hybrid fullback/tight end role for C.J. Ham.

Dalvin Cook is a star. In an offense that could see the dynamic rusher get more catches, the sky could be the limit for him in terms of yards from scrimmage and a more creative playbook could do wonders for him.

The wild card here is Alexander Mattison. His bruising style of running sets him apart from the other running backs in this unit and could make him a short-yardage and goalline specialist while being a change-of-pace guy for Minnesota.

Kene Nwangwu and Ty Chandler are both speedy, shifty backs with home run potential. They may end up splitting any carries that Cook and Mattison leave on the table, but they should both also have special teams roles
