Kirk Cousins – QB
The biggest scapegoat of all will likely be Kirk Cousins if the Vikings flatter to deceive once again in 2022.
Nothing new to the quarterback, obviously. But it must be discussed nonetheless.
Cousins continues to put up some great numbers consistently. He did have some drama last season due to his unvaccinated status, which wasn’t ideal, but he remains one of the top-12 players at his position when one examines other signal-callers across the league.
There are a plethora of teams who’d rather have Cousins than their current man under center. However, this season is one of critical importance for the Michigan State product despite signing a one-year extension earlier this year.
If Cousins cannot meet some lofty but attainable targets, then 2023 would be the time Minnesota should utilize their first-round selection on a quarterback. Next year’s class has the scope to be outstanding and should the Vikings miss the postseason once again, they’d be in a prime position to take one.
This might also indicate that Cousins performed below-par, which would likely come with significant criticism from fans and the wider media.
