Dalvin Cook & Alexander Mattison – RBs

One area where the Vikings have thrived in recent years is the running back spot. Having one of the best around in Dalvin Cook obviously helps, but one cannot dismiss the contribution made by Alexander Mattison when the former Florida State standout’s been missing due to injury.

Cook has been nothing short of phenomenal since arriving as a second-round pick. His running style boasts the perfect blend of power and agility, which is incredibly difficult to stop when the player spots a seam and reacts accordingly.

Obviously, Cook has never played a full season thanks to a number of different problems. So the new regime in Minnesota must be wary of this fact when putting together their game plan for 2022.

Although Mattison has two young hopefuls breathing down his neck for playing time, it would be a big shock if the player didn’t resume responsibilities as the primary backup option. Kene Nwangwu and rookie Ty Chandler will push him every step of the way in training camp, but the Boise State product has enough quality film to see off the challenge.

Cook and Mattison provide the Vikings with a strong one-two punch that can set the tone. If the offensive line also makes improvements, then some big performances won’t be far behind.
