Carlos Hyde – RB
Connection to Vikings: Kwesi Adofo-Mensah
As it was mentioned earlier, injuries are an unavoidable part of the sport of football. So while it currently looks like Minnesota has a very talented group of running backs that is full of depth, that can all change with an injury to someone like Dalvin Cook or Alexander Mattison.
So it’s always good to have an idea of some players to consider if needed due to other injuries on the roster. Former Jacksonville Jaguars running back Carlos Hyde could be one of those guys.
Hyde’s first four seasons in the NFL were spent as a member of the San Francisco 49ers. Also a member of the 49ers organization during this four-year period (2014 to 2017) was current Vikings general manager, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah.
Hyde delivered some of the best football of his career during those four seasons, so Adofo-Mensah knows what the veteran running back is capable of with the ball in his hands, and he knows what his experience can provide to the younger backs on Minnesota’s roster.
In 12 appearances with the Jaguars last year, Hyde only rushed for 253 yards and one touchdown on 72 carries in addition to catching 12 passes for 65 yards. The Vikings obviously wouldn’t bring him in as a starter, but if they end up needing more depth at some point in 2022, Hyde could be a guy they consider signing.
