Eddie Goldman – DT
Connection to Vikings: Ed Donatell and Mike Pettine
With the recent report that Minnesota has had multiple conversations with free-agent defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, it seems like they’re interested in improving the depth of their interior defensive line this summer.
Suh could end up signing with the Vikings, but if he doesn’t, Eddie Goldman is someone who might actually be a better fit for Minnesota’s new defense.
Like Danny Trevathan, Goldman’s connection to the Vikings is with Ed Donatell and Mike Pettine from all of their stints with the Bears. With Chicago last season, Goldman accumulated 22 tackles (one for a loss) and 0.5 sacks.
At 6-foot-3 and 325 pounds, he is best suited as a nose tackle, and that is where he has lined up during the majority of his NFL career ever since he was drafted in 2015. Minnesota wouldn’t need Goldman to come in and be a starter, but he’s someone who probably wouldn’t need much time to learn the defense since he’s already familiar with the scheme.
