Connection to Vikings: Patrick Peterson

When it comes to cornerbacks, the Vikings currently have a ton on their roster. 12 to be exact. Beyond Patrick Peterson, however, Minnesota doesn’t have a comfortable amount of experience at the top of their corner depth chart.

Most are expecting Cameron Dantzler to open the 2022 season as the No. 2 cornerback, but he’s been a bit hit-or-miss during his first two years with the Vikings. Dantzler’s coverage numbers have been impressive, but he’s made a few terrible decisions at some of the most critical times in a game.

If Minnesota is interested in adding another veteran to the group who has starting experience, they could turn to Peterson’s former Cardinals teammate, Robert Alford.

Alford is 33-years-old, but he’s coming off a 2021 season with Arizona where he finished with an allowed completion percentage of 57.1 and an 81.7 allowed passer rating when targeted. Those numbers were better than the majority of the corners on the Vikings’ roster in 2021.

As it was mentioned though, Minnesota already has an excessive amount of cornerbacks on their current roster, so an injury or two to the position group will probably be needed before there’s any realistic chance of Alford being contacted by the Vikings.
