It was a bit of a surprise to some when the Minnesota Vikings didn’t use their first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft on a cornerback. Although they did focus on the secondary, it was to pair Harrison Smith with rookie Lewis Cine.
Cine can truly do it all. Much like Harrison Smith, the versatile young safety should be used similar to his veteran counterpart to create a final line of defense that can cover, tackle, and cover based on what is asked of them in the new defense.
The Vikings have a front seven in their defense that boasts big bodies up front, one of the best edge-rushing duos in the league, and a duo of the best tacklers in the middle. That should allow Minnesota’s coaching staff to get the most out of their top pick as a rookie.
