What are some realistic goals for Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins in 2022?

After some speculation about his future this offseason, Kirk Cousins is getting ready to lead the Minnesota Vikings once again in 2022. The quarterback’s close connection with new head coach Kevin O’Connell could provide the spark needed for a playoff return, although it’ll take more than this tandem hitting it off to achieve their primary goal.

Cousins is statistically decent more often than not. There are limitations that could indicate the Vikings will only go so far with the former fourth-round pick under center, so things are hanging in the balance in terms of genuine progression next season.

Whether Cousins is a little long in the tooth to pick up anything new at this stage is debatable. But the talent around him is there, and the offensive line should also be much better, providing Christian Darrisaw’s injury problems become a thing of the past.

With this in mind, here are four realistic goals for Cousins in 2022.

Remain efficient with the football

One notable improvement Cousins made last season was cutting down on turnovers. The signal-caller’s interception number dropped to seven from 13 in 2020, and although it wasn’t enough for Minnesota to make a playoff return, something similar is required this time around.

As stated previously, the Vikings are loaded with talent at the skill positions. Something that will be further strengthened next season by the return of tight end Irv Smith Jr. to the field.

If Cousins can maximize the tools around him and is efficient with the football for good measure, the Vikings might just have a chance after all.
