5 surprising candidates to make the Vikings 53-man roster in 2022
By Dean Jones
Which players could emerge as surprising candidates to make the Minnesota Vikings 53-man roster in 2022?
It’s been all change within the Minnesota Vikings this offseason as ownership concluded that landmark alterations were needed to get this team back into postseason contention. Mike Zimmer and Rick Spielman achieved considerable success over the years, but a fresh approach was undoubtedly welcome for most fans and those in the locker room.
At least on that front, things are looking promising. There is a fresh sense of intrigue and additional competition for places after a strong period of recruitment, which could bring the best out of many during Minnesota’s upcoming training camp.
The Vikings have the talent to make improvements after keeping most of their top performers around. There could also be a surprise or two that push their way into the team’s plans later this summer with a strong camp showing.
With this in mind, here are five surprising candidates to make the Vikings’ roster in 2022.
Player No. 1
Troy Dye – LB
It might be a surprise for some to see Troy Dye on this list after spending the last two seasons in Minnesota, but the organization now has an abundance of young linebackers ready and willing to step up and take his place.
This represents a significant challenge for Dye. Especially considering the Vikings are now switching to a 3-4 base defense under Ed Donatell and signed Jordan Hicks in free agency.
Dye has NFL experience and flashed during his time on the field so far. This will stand him in good stead and who knows, it might come with a roster spot when it’s all said and done.
