4 surprising firecrackers on the 2022 Minnesota Vikings
By Nik Edlund
Chandon Sullivan – CB
The Vikings have a revamped secondary that is a nice mix of young players and veterans who came to the beloved purple in the offseason. It’s unclear at this point how the depth chart will shake out and who will end up where, but one player that should see plenty of time and has a chance to make plays that will leave fans ooohing and ahhing is cornerback Chandon Sullivan.
Sullivan made his living in Green Bay as a slot corner. While he had his ups and downs, even the most cynical Vikings fans will see him as an upgrade over Mackensie Alexander. There’s no question Sullivan has the pedigree and talent to make those beliefs become reality this season.
Sullivan has five career interceptions with three of those coming in 2021. He also has 16 career pass breakups and that kind of production will be very welcome in Minnesota. Mackensie Alexander struggled mightily last season, and was a huge liability in coverage. If Sullivan can adequately cover his man and provide the occasional splash play, it will be a huge upgrade for this beleaguered Vikings’ defense.
If he can match or exceed his interception total from a season ago, that will provide plenty of fireworks for this defense. The Vikings‘ offense this season is loaded, and if Sullivan can provide them with a short field even a handful of times, it’ll be a huge explosion of points for the Vikings that should lead to plenty of wins.
