Kirk Cousins – QB

Another year of uncertainty eventually saw the Vikings hand quarterback Kirk Cousins a new one-year deal, which keeps him under contract until 2024. This was the right call to make with no real alternatives or upgrades to be found, but the signal-caller has a huge year ahead of him in Kevin O’Connell’s dynamic scheme.

Cousins is at the top end of the mid-tier regarding NFL quarterbacks. He’s not quite in the elite category, but the Vikings could do far worse looking at other situations across the league.

Even though Cousins is approaching the tail-end of life in the league, another outstanding campaign of production could see the veteran look for one more payday that would likely see him finish his career in Minnesota. The Vikings might also look to accomplish this in pursuit of freeing up funds to allocate elsewhere.

This is dependent on whether Cousins proves worthy of yet another financial commitment if the Vikings make the postseason, and their ability to become genuine contenders in 2023 and beyond.

Minnesota won’t want to commit much more in Cousins’ direction if they are on the fence about his capabilities following the upcoming campaign. But if the signal-caller shines under O’Connell, things could get a little dicey, especially if the Vikings look at the upcoming draft class for a better long-term option.
