Kellen Mond – QB

It’s a sticky situation that Kellen Mond finds himself in.

On one hand, it’s probably a relief that Mike Zimmer is no longer around given how critical the former head coach was of his development.

On the other, this new regime has no emotional connection to the Texas A&M product and won’t hesitate to go in a different direction if they feel it can benefit the franchise.

Mond came into the league with long-term prospects to eventually succeed Kirk Cousins as the team’s option under center. Things have not gone according to plan for the quarterback, so this summer represents a huge test of the player’s character.

This is likely to be Mond’s final audition in pursuit of carving out a role for himself in Minnesota. The Vikings re-signing Sean Mannion is another element to the backup battle that shouldn’t be overlooked and especially if the team ends up taking just two signal-callers onto their roster.

The people that saw something in Mond are no longer around. But starting from scratch is probably a good thing for the player considering how things went during his first season with the franchise.

If the Vikings don’t like what they see, then Mond might be replaced by another prospect from a deep 2023 draft class or cut loose entirely before Week 1.
