5 emergency QB options if the Vikings lose Kirk Cousins to injury in 2022

The practice squad passer: Nate Stanley
Although the Minnesota Vikings have less draft capital invested in Nate Stanley than Kellen Mond, Stanley has been with the team since 2020 and has spent time between the practice squad and injured reserve.
A longer tenure in the NFL might be an advantage for the former Iowa passer, but with a new regime in charge in Minnesota, every player will likely get a clean slate when being evaluated for their depth chart.
Odds are that Stanley will once again be part of the Vikings’ final cuts and placed on the practice squad unless a better option comes up, but there are still a lot of questions surrounding the team’s seventh-round pick in 2020.
Stanley should be considered another unknown since he hasn’t had many opportunities in the NFL. Kevin O’Connell will get a good look at him during training camp and the preseason to see what the team will do with him from here.
