Former Vikings safety is furious about not being included in recent ranking
By Adam Patrick
Former Minnesota Vikings safety Jayron Kearse, now a member of the Dallas Cowboys, expressed his frustration about a recent ranking that didn’t include him.
During his four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, Jayron Kearse didn’t get a whole lot of time on the field to shine as a starter. But with the Dallas Cowboys last year, Kearse started 15 games, and he made the most of his increased playing time.
When the 2021 campaign came to a close, Kearse had racked up a total of 101 tackles (nine for a loss), 10 pass deflections, two interceptions, and one sack.
Kearse will suit up for the Cowboys again next season, and despite his performance in 2021, some still don’t believe he should be considered one of the top safeties in the NFL.
Former Minnesota Vikings safety Jayron Kearse not thrilled with recent positional ranking
With not much to talk about when it comes to the NFL during this time of the year, ESPN has been rolling out some rankings of position groups from around the league during the last few days.
Recently, they shared their list of the top-10 safeties heading into the 2022 season. Vikings safety Harrison Smith actually wound up with the No. 7 ranking on the list and Denver Broncos safety Justin Simmons grabbed the top spot on the list.
Not included in the top 10 or among any of the 13 other safeties that received votes for the list was Kearse. He was clearly made aware of his absence from the article, so the former Minnesota safety let his feelings be known on Twitter on Sunday.
If Kearse is looking for a list that ranks him favorably, Pro Football Network recently revealed their top safeties heading into the 2022 season and they have the former Minnesota draft pick at the No. 10 spot.
Moving forward, the best thing Kearse can do is to hit the field for the 2022 campaign with Dallas and just let his play prove ESPN wrong. Players in the NFL aren’t really ever lacking motivation, but the former Vikings safety certainly has something to fuel his fire during the upcoming season.
