Top 32 NFL QBs of 2022: Where does Vikings QB Kirk Cousins rank?
By Adam Patrick
No. 20: Tua Tagovailoa (Miami Dolphins)
Heading into the 2022 season, Tua Tagovailoa has a lot riding in his favor. The Dolphins hired a new head coach in Mike McDaniel, who might be one of the smartest people in the entire NFL, they traded for All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill, and Miami signed one of the top free agents of the offseason in left tackle Terron Armstead.
Tagovailoa has been a bit of a game manager in his first two years with the Dolphins. But in 2022, he has a chance to emerge as a quarterback who can have a greater impact on Miami’s offense.
McDaniel is going to put Tagovailoa in position to succeed next season. What the young quarterback is able to do with his additional help in 2022 could determine the rest of his future in the NFL.
No. 19: Mac Jones (New England Patriots)
Not too many knew what to expect from Mac Jones in his first-ever season in the NFL last year. But it didn’t take Jones long to prove to the Patriots and to the rest of the league that he belonged in the NFL.
As a rookie, he started all 17 games for New England in 2021, and he also started under center in a first-round playoff matchup against the Buffalo Bills. During the regular season, Jones completed 67.6 percent of his passes for 3,801 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.
He was easily the best rookie quarterback out on the field in 2021, and it wasn’t even close. If Jones is going to continue trending forward next season though, he’ll have to do it without former Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who is now the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.
