At least three players from the 2021 class will be cut

We already discussed Mond’s future, but tomorrow isn’t guaranteed for the rest of the 2021 draft class. With a new regime in town, there are several players from last year’s class that will need to perform or find their way out of Minnesota.

That starts with Wyatt Davis. Many were thrilled when Davis slid to the Vikings in the third round, but he showed up to camp overweight and landed in Zimmer’s doghouse. Even with Oli Udoh struggling, Davis never saw the field during the regular season, and the Vikings’ new regime added Reed, Jesse Davis, and 2022 second-round pick Ed Ingram to compete for the starting right guard position.

Chazz Surratt is also on the bubble after becoming non-existent during his rookie season. A former quarterback, Surratt was always a long shot to contribute early. But at age 25, he’ll need to make an impression or risk being cut.

Patrick Jones III, Janarius Robinson, and Zach Davidson are also names that could be on the chopping block, leaving the class with a pivotal training camp.

If O’Connell and his staff can find a way to get more out of them, it could justify Rick Spielman’s decision to acquire quantity over quality in the draft. If not, it could vindicate Mike Zimmer, and bring a wave of new blood to the Vikings.
