Minnesota Vikings pre-training camp 53-man roster prediction
By Adam Carlson
Some tough cuts will need to be made in order for the Minnesota Vikings to reach their roster limit of 53 for the 2022 NFL season.
Putting together a roster to compete with the best teams in the NFL is a challenge that every team must face every season. The Minnesota Vikings are set to bring many talented individuals into training camp this year but many won’t end up making the cut.
Some high-quality players will be left to sign with another team or possibly return to the practice squad while others may find their dreams of playing in the NFL come to a screeching halt. Either way, these players need to impress the coaches and staff as much as possible before cuts are made.
Let’s take a look at each position grouping and see which players will likely make the cut to be on the 53-man roster of the Minnesota Vikings this year.
NOTE: All stats from Pro Football Reference
Quarterbacks (3)
- Starter: Kirk Cousins,
- Backups: Sean Mannion, Kellen Mond
It appears as though nothing will change from last year’s quarterback situation in Minnesota. Kirk Cousins will once again be the man for the Vikings and he should look significantly better in an offense that is fit to his skillset with great weapons around him.
There are rumblings of an open competition for the backup job behind Cousins. It shouldn’t take much for Kellen Mond to leapfrog Sean Mannion if this were a true battle, but odds are that Mannion’s experience and knowledge will likely be too much for the young quarterback to overcome.
At the moment, there is not a fourth quarterback on the roster, making this the easiest position to predict at the moment.
