Minnesota Vikings rookie cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. is off to a great start during the team’s first two days of their 2022 training camp.

On Day 1 of this year’s training camp, Minnesota Vikings rookie cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. had arguably the best play of the afternoon when he picked off a pass thrown by quarterback Kirk Cousins, and the young defensive back did it in spectacular fashion.

On the second day of Vikings training camp, Booth was back to making even more plays when he was tasked with going up against the team’s talented group of wide receivers.

Quick rise of rookie Andrew Booth Jr. is a great sign for the Minnesota Vikings

For a Minnesota defense that ranked 28th in the NFL last season in passing yards allowed, the fact that a rookie cornerback is already making his presence felt is great news for the chances of the team improving against the pass in 2022.

Booth is currently competing with Cameron Dantzler this summer to open up the regular season as the Vikings‘ other starting outside corner alongside Patrick Peterson.

So far, this battle between the two young corners seems like it’s going to be the one to watch in this year’s training camp, as Dantzler has already been making some plays of his own as well.

At the very least, Minnesota should feel better about their cornerback depth than they did before training camp started. Even if they don’t win the No. 2 corner job, Booth or Dantzler as the Vikings’ No. 4 cornerback is a much better option than if the role went to some of the team’s other defensive backs like Kris Boyd and Harrison Hand.

Moving forward, the key will be to see if Booth can remain healthy throughout the rest of camp and the preseason. Minnesota hasn’t put on the pads for practice yet, and once they do that, things will be getting a lot more physical out on the field.

If Booth can manage to stay off the sideline, he’s already shown that he has a great shot at opening the regular season as the Vikings’ other starting cornerback.
