Kwesi Adofo-Mensah believes in Kirk Cousins, kind of…

One of the biggest takeaways from Day 1 of Training Camp is a strange statement made by new Minnesota Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah where he addressed how Kirk Cousins fits into the team’s offense.

Tough decisions were made when the new regime arrived in Minnesota and one of the calls made was to continue with Kirk Cousins as their quarterback moving forward. According to CBS Sports, starting over at QB is something that is heavy on his mind.

"“The one asset where you get nervous about not burning it down is quarterback,” Adofo-Mensah said."

Of course, every team would love to draft an amazing rookie quarterback. Guys like Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, and Joe Burrow Sadly, the more common result is landing a passer who doesn’t quite work out. Having a known commodity like Cousins is safe, but not exciting.

"“We don’t have Tom Brady,” Adofo-Mensah said, and “We don’t have Pat[rick] Mahomes. “[The Super Bowl] is more likely to win if you have that quarterback. It’s very unlikely to have that quarterback.”"

Having a quarterback who has been to a Super Bowl and won and won a Lombardi Trophy would be amazing. Kirk Cousins has never been to the big dance and would love to prove to his GM and coaches that he can be that man.

Kwesi Adofo-Mensah seems willing to give Cousins the opportunity to reach the promised land, but this quote should make fans wonder how short the leash really is on Kirk going forward.
