The Minnesota Vikings announced on Friday that former defensive end Jared Allen will be the next person to be inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor.

Shortly before the NFL Draft in 2008, the Minnesota Vikings decided to send their 2008 first-round pick (along with three other draft selections) to the Kansas City Chiefs in order to acquire Pro Bowl defensive end Jared Allen.

The deal for Allen turned out to be one of the best trades in Vikings history as the talented pass rusher went on to rack up 85.5 sacks during six seasons in purple and gold, including a franchise record 22 in 2011.

Despite only appearing in fewer than 100 games for Minnesota, Allen’s 85.5 sacks still rank sixth all-time in team history. His 85.5 sacks during his career with the Vikings from 2008 to 2013 are also the most that any player in the NFL was able to accumulate during this six-year time period.

Minnesota Vikings to induct Jared Allen into the team’s Ring of Honor

To show their appreciation for what he was able to do out on the field during his tenure with the franchise, Minnesota announced on Friday that Allen will become the next member of the team’s Ring of Honor.

The former pass rusher will join some of the most legendary members of the Vikings organization in the franchise’s Ring of Honor, including two of his former teammates, Randy Moss and Kevin Williams.

Minnesota announced on Friday that they will hold an induction ceremony for Allen during halftime of the team’s Week 8 matchup this season inside U.S. Bank Stadium against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, October 30th.

Hopefully, this won’t be the only induction to honor Allen’s career that we see in the near future. The former Vikings defensive end has been a Pro Football Hall of Fame finalist for the past two years, but he’s come up short of earning a gold jacket each time.

Will being on the Pro Football Hall of Fame ballot for the third time this year prove to be the charm for Allen?
