Rookie working his way into action

Yesterday, one of the biggest takeaways was the camp battles happening at certain positions. However, first-round draft pick Lewis Cine is expected to be a starter at safety next to Harrison Smith when the season starts, but he isn’t being put in that spot yet.

According to Chris Tomasson on Twitter, Camryn Bynum is getting the nod to start training camp at safety, but he likely will take a back seat to Cine once the dynamic young defender is ready to step into the role.

Despite being a backup, Kevin O’Connell is finding ways to test his future starter. Will Ragatz of Sports Illustrated reported that some three safety sets were run where Cine moved into the box on defense.

Having depth at safety is nice and being able to use safeties in different ways can help to keep defenders on their toes. Everything here should line up to big things in the future for Lewis Cine as he continues to grow and develop.
