Former Vikings offensive lineman signs with NFC East team

Former Minnesota Vikings offensive lineman Rashod Hill recently signed with the Washington Commanders, officially ending his tenure in Minnesota.
A Minnesota Vikings free agent has found a home outside of the Twin Cities as former offensive lineman Rashod Hill recently signed with the Washington Commanders, ending his tenure with the Vikings. Hill, originally an undrafted free agent signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars, spent the last six seasons with Minnesota.
Hill spent most of his tenure as a swing tackle for the Vikings. In 2018, the 30-year-old had a career-high eight starts. He started five games last season, but for the 2019 and 2020 campaigns, he only got the starting nod for one contest in each season.
Now, Hill will look to add depth to the Commanders’ offensive line that already includes Trai Turner, Andrew Norwell, Charles Leno Jr., and Saahdiq Charles. Though primarily a tackle in Minnesota, it’s unclear what position Washington has in mind for Hill.
What Rashod Hill signing with the Washington Commanders means for the Minnesota Vikings
With Hill officially out of Minnesota, the Vikings can continue to build on last year with sophomore Christian Darrisaw and Pro Bowler Brian O’Neill as their two starting offensive tackles.
Additionally, the team can work with the interior linemen they currently have and not have to consider Hill as an option at guard.
Focusing on the interior offensive line and moving on from a veteran tackle paves the way for players such as Wyatt Davis to have a bigger role in 2022. Davis didn’t start a single game last season as a rookie, and now he has one less veteran to worry about.
After six years with the Vikings, Hill moves on to compete during the preseason for Washington and fight for a spot to protect newly acquired quarterback Carson Wentz.
For Minnesota, they officially move on from a player who was one of the many Vikings from the 2021 season that remained unsigned.
